An Update from Dr. Marc Smith, April 24, 2026

Hello Fort Bend ISD Community,
A lot has happened since my last update. Our district has worked diligently over the past few weeks to communicate with families and staff members who are affected by the recent boundary changes and school closures.

Targeted email communications were sent to all the families who are impacted. On April 10, more than 4,000 emails were sent to students in our general education population. And, on April 17, we sent 5,100 emails to students in our special education program and 1,600 emails to bilingual families.
Moving forward, parents can expect updates from both the campus and the district as we work to transition students to their new campuses. Leaders at the schools that are closing are planning events and ways to commemorate their campus. Those campuses who are receiving students will host opportunities for students to visit their new campus and meet the staff.

I’m happy to report, the majority of our teachers who were impacted by the closures have been placed. As of April 17, HR has placed 77.3% of consolidated teachers and 52% of non-teaching staff. These employees will continue to be placed daily as vacancies arise from resignations and retirements. We are staying true to our commitment to find everyone a position.
In addition, we held our annual job fair earlier this month where we had more than 1,500 potential candidates attend. If you or someone you know is interested in working for our district, visit www.fortbendisd.com/careers.

The Board of Trustees voted on several consent agenda items on Monday night that pertain to policy and curriculum. I encourage you to watch the board meeting if you are interested in learning more about these topics. You can view the meeting here.
Sincerely,
Dr. Marc Smith
Fort Bend ISD Superintendent
