At this week's board meeting several important items were presented that we want you to be aware of.

Here is a recap of the main topics from this week's meeting.

Trending in the Right Direction – Mid-Year Student Performance Data

I am pleased to share that our intentional efforts to focus on collecting and analyzing student achievement data over the past two years is paying off!

Our data shows above average growth when compared to the nation in almost every grade level and content area between the beginning and middle of this school year.

We will continue to use this data to develop targeted campus support, train our campus administrators to target student academic needs and equip campus staff to analyze and act on student data.

To dig deeper into how we collect and use the data, watch the presentation by our Teaching and Learning Department.

New Redesigned and Innovative Programs Available Next School Year

FBISD administrators shared plans to expand innovative learning opportunities that will be offered beginning in the 2026-27 school year.

  • Virtual high school option. Open to 2026-27 freshmen class only.
  • Middle school programs of choice:
    • Coleman Middle School: Aviation and Aerospace
    • Crockett Middle School: Artificial Intelligence
    • Garcia Middle School: Creative Arts and Innovation
    • Sartartia Middle School: Leadership and Civic Engagement
  • Elementary Two-way Spanish Dual Language program. Open to 2026-27 Kindergarten class only.
  • Elementary Mandarin Immersion program. Open to 2026-27 Kindergarten class only.

Application criteria for new programs will be communicated by the district during the week of March 2. The application window will run March 23 through April 24 and notification of acceptance will begin May 4.

These programs are in addition to our existing high school Academies, our Gifted and Talented Middle School Academy, Career & Technical Education opportunities and elementary premier programs.

Limited Open Enrollment

FBISD is excited to announce Limited Open Enrollment for the upcoming school year at selected campuses.

FBISD resident students can access new and innovative programming by indicating their desire to transfer to an available campus via application.

FBISD non-resident students may also access FBISD schools and/or programming via the transfer application.

Resident students will be prioritized for placement before non-resident students.

The application window will run March 23 through April 24 and notification of acceptance will begin May 4.

Employee Childcare Offered Next School Year

FBISD will roll out full time, tuition-based employee childcare for children ages 2 years and older for parents and grandparents currently employed with the district. Limited spots will be available during the 2026-2027 school year.

FBISD Expands Leadership Growth Opportunities for Employees

Investing in our leaders is important. We will offer four leadership pipelines moving into the 2026-27 school year.

  • Aspire: Teachers who want to become assistant principals
  • Ascend: Assistant principals who want to become principals
  • Accelerate: Associate principals who want to become principals
  • Elevate. Principals who want to enter central administration

Long-Range Boundary Planning yellow text on green background

Long Range Boundary Planning

As part of the District’s Long-Range Boundary Planning process, the Board of Trustees received a formal recommendation from district administration to move forward with the:

  • Proposed closure of seven elementary campuses
  • Implementation of districtwide elementary attendance boundary changes
  • Establishment of the attendance boundary for Amy Coleman Middle School

After months of study, community engagement, and data analysis, the School Boundary Advisory Committee (SBAC)—comprised of parents and community members from across the district—provided input to the administration to inform these recommendations.

The Board will consider the final recommendations at the March 9 Agenda Review Workshop.

Sincerely,
Dr. Marc Smith
Superintendent, Fort Bend ISD
