An Update from Dr. Marc Smith, February 3, 2026

February 3, 2026
Dear Fort Bend ISD (FBISD) Students, Families, and Staff,
Over the last two days, several of our students have participated in walkout demonstrations at various campuses. I want to take a moment to address this with transparency, respect, and care for our entire school community.
Many students have shared that their actions are connected to recent national events, including reports involving federal immigration enforcement activity, and they plan to express themselves.
FBISD respects students' rights; however, our mission is to ensure a safe and productive learning environment, free from interruptions. Disruptions to the instructional day, including leaving class or the premises without permission, or not returning when directed, are not permitted.
FBISD does not condone student demonstrations that disrupt campus operations and student learning. Campus leaders and the FBISD Police Department have been actively monitoring the situation to protect the integrity of academic instruction and maintain order.
In accordance with the FBISD Student Code of Conduct, students who leave campus or do not return to class as directed may receive an unexcused absence or disciplinary consequence consistent with established attendance and code of conduct standards.
We ask our families to remind their students of district expectations and policies.
Thank you for your continued partnership in education, safety, and community.
With appreciation,
Dr. Marc Smith
Superintendent
Fort Bend ISD
