Fort Bend ISD Board Adopts Resolution in Support of House Bill 2

FBISD’s Board of Trustees adopted a resolution in support of House Bill 2, urging the Texas Legislature to pass the original version as presented by the House of Representatives.

Like many other school districts, FBISD is facing significant financial challenges and falling behind due to record-high inflation and stagnant state funding.

House Bill 2, introduced during the 89th Regular Texas Legislative Session, proposes amendments to the Education Code aimed at enhancing public education and public-school finance in Texas. Currently, the Senate Committee's substitution of the House Bill emphasizes raises for experienced teachers and does not provide the funding flexibility school districts need to compensate other staff or meet programmatic needs.

New Middle School Named after First Black Female Principal Amy Coleman

Fort Bend ISD’s Board of Trustees approved the name of the district’s 16th middle school in honor of Amy Coleman, the district’s first Black female principal.

Amy Coleman dedicated nearly 33 years to the field of education, serving as a first-grade teacher at Blue Ridge Elementary and later as assistant principal and principal at Briargate Elementary and then opened Hunters Glen Elementary as principal.
