An Update from Dr. Smith, February 4, 2025
February 4, 2025
Hello Parents, Students, Teachers and Staff,
Fort Bend ISD leadership is laser-focused on sharing clear, concise information about school boundaries and district growth patterns. In the spirit of that commitment, I am sending you this brief update on what took place at the February 3rd special board meeting workshop.
Demographics and Enrollment Projections
Population and Survey Analysts (PASA), a firm with more than 40 years of experience in demographics and enrollment projections, informed the board and administration of current population trends and growth projections for the district. During the presentation, they explained that most of the district has stabilized in student growth and enrollment, while new residential construction continues in pockets in the far southeast and northern areas. The data provided by PASA will be an important resource for the district to use as we navigate the future impact of charter schools and state funding measures for public education.
Ferndell Henry Elementary School Boundary
Ferndell Henry Elementary School is scheduled to open for the 2025-2026 school year. Over the next several weeks, the district will be hosting a series of public events to address the development of the school’s attendance boundary.
- On February 18th, there will be a special board meeting where the district’s boundary planner Zonda, FBISD staff, and the School Boundary Advisory Committee (SBAC) will report on the results of their work and trustees will provide input.
- On February 26th, there will be a public hearing at Almeta Crawford High School, as Ferndell Henry Elementary is within that feeder pattern. Parents, students, staff and community members are invited to attend and share feedback.
- On March 27th, Zonda, district staff and the SBAC will report to the board on community feedback received at Crawford High School, and the board will again provide input.
- On April 7th, the board is scheduled to vote on the Ferndell Henry Elementary School boundary.
Long-range Planning
Following the approval of the Ferndell Henry Elementary boundary, FBISD staff will engage in a long-range district wide boundary planning process. The district will receive information, expert guidance and data from both Zonda and PASA, as part of the boundary work. We are committed to being transparent and intentional about future plans for the district.
Over the next several weeks, I will continue to update you on the work taking place as we move forward in formulating and executing plans that benefit our district both now and in years to come.
