Childhood Background: I was born in Austin, Texas and grew up in San Saba, Texas about 2 hours northwest of Austin. I used to “play” school and always wanted to be a mom and a teacher!
Education: I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Applied Learning and Development in 1991. I moved to Houston and earned my ESL certification from the University of St. Thomas while teaching in Alief ISD. I am also certified in Early Childhood Development. I taught 2nd grade for 2 years in Alief ISD and then taught Kindergarten for 5 years in FBISD—1 year at Lakeview Elementary and 4 years at Lexington Creek Elementary. After staying home with my family, I returned to teaching in 2014 as a First Grade Teacher at Oakland Elementary. In 2015-16, I enrolled in Texas Women’s University to be trained in Reading Recovery. I am beginning my 14th year of teaching and looking forward to a great year with my First Graders at James C. Neill Elementary—hopefully face to face!
Family: I have been married for 28 years to my wonderful husband, David, with whom we have four beautiful daughters. Reavis is 23 years old and graduated in May 2019 from the University of Mary Hardin Baylor with a B.S.N. R.N. in Nursing. She lives in Dallas where she is a Pediatric Home Health Nurse. Hannah is 20 years old and a junior at the University of Texas-Tyler. She plays volleyball and would like to become a math teacher. Camryn is also 20 years old (yes, twins) and is a junior at Stephen F. Austin State University pursuing a degree in elementary education. Jordan is 18 years old and will be attending the University of Texas at Austin pursuing pre-med studies in biology. I feel blessed to have been able to spend 16 years at home with them.
Hobbies: I love to cook, travel and read.
Favorites: I love coffee, tea, chocolate and Mexican Food!
Scripture: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.” Colossians 3:23
