I am Edie Drake Stewart, an eighth year teacher at Oakland Elementary, in my fifteenth year of teaching. I began my teaching career in my hometown of New Orleans, LA. There I taught seventh and eighth grade READ180 (reading intervention) and fifth grade English Language Arts. I have taught 4th and 5th grades during my years at Oakland.
I have a Masters of Arts in Teaching specializing in Elementary Education and Reading Specialist from Xavier University of Louisiana, and a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science from Southern University and A&M College. I also have extensive training in arts integration, as a former mentor teacher at an arts integrated charter school in New Orleans.
When I am away from the classroom, I enjoy making memories with my family. I am a proud wife and the mother of twin college students and a 10th grader. We enjoy football, basketball, and track and field activities, when we’re not cheering on our favorite team, the New Orleans Saints.
