Mrs. Roxann Barrera-Coffman
I was born and raised in McAllen, Texas, a city just 10 minutes from the Mexico border. Due to my Mexican heritage, I grew up very involved in my Hispanic community and was raised speaking English and Spanish. My mother has a Deaf cousin, who inspired me to learn sign language from a young age. I started my undergraduate program at the University of Texas-Pan America. At the age of 20, I transferred to Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas to pursue a degree in Deaf Education. I graduated from Lamar University with a Bachelors Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Masters Degree in Deaf Education/Deaf Studies. While studying at Lamar University, I met my husband, Zach. We have been blessed with having two beautiful children, Luke and Olivia.
I have been teaching since August 2007. I worked as an Educator for the Deaf for 10 years and have taught grades PreK-2nd grade.
I am so excited to be back at Ridge Point High School for a 4th year!!
We offer ASL 1, ASL 2, ASL 3, and ASL Dual Credit. ASL Club and ASL Honor Society are also waiting for you to join!
