My Philosophy on Education
Education is a means to overcome the obstacles of your past, environment and economic condition to become an independent, self-sufficient and productive member of society. (Written by Shelia Lane, ATPE Secondary Teacher of the Year, 2002)
Holding true to this belief, as a life-long learner, I’m always in search of new knowledge in data analysis, strategic planning, technology integration, literacy, math, and student engagement and motivation to maximize my effectiveness in the classroom.
I’m a native Houstonian with roots in a single-parent household in the housing projects on Houston’s north side. I became a teacher via an Alternative Certification Program (ACP) where I was selected as ACP Intern of the Year as a first year teacher. Receiving this award was an affirmation that becoming an educator was the right choice for my career. My love of knowledge and passion for aiding young people in reaching their supreme potential is how I aspire to make a positive impact on children’s lives.
With 20 years’ experience in education, I have served in various leadership capacities including assistant principal, summer school coordinator, campus testing coordinator, gifted and talented coordinator, mentor of first and second year teachers, and special education chair, resource and co-teacher.
It is with great anticipation that I await an opportunity to teach your child and prepare him/her for a year filled with enthusiasm and academic growth. You are welcome to visit my class at any time.
