Many years ago, I graduated from Richard King High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, where I was a member of several clubs and organizations, including the Spanish Club and the National Honor Society. In my free time, I volunteered at my church as a guitar player and music leader for Sunday folk masses, and as a catechism teacher on Saturday mornings. In addition, I worked on special events for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and I volunteered at the Corpus Christi State School. In the summers, I volunteered as a camp friend for disabled youth and I spent a lot of time at our local public library. My family inspired me to be the person that I am today. As a youngster, I always knew that I wanted to teach. 

Now I have both a Doctorate degree in Higher Education and my Master’s degree in Education from Texas Southern University. A few years earlier, I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Education with a major in Spanish and a minor in English from Texas A & M University – Corpus Christi. In addition, I have taken supplemental classes at the University of St. Thomas and Rice University.

In my career as an educator, I have held a variety of positions, including having worked with students from Pre-kindergarten through high school as both a bilingual teacher and a Spanish teacher. In addition, I taught Upward Bound students on the weekends and during the summers for five years. Presently, I teach Spanish 3, 4AP, and 5AP at Elkins High School, and I am the World Languages Department Chair. Always passionate about growing future educators, I have helped many individuals along their path toward becoming certified teachers.

In my personal life, my husband and I have a blended family of five grown children and four grandchildren, with a fifth grandchild on the way. I also enjoy spending time with my black lab, Banshee, and my little Maltese, Navi.
