Hi! My name is Monica Thompson and I am super excited about teaching 5th grade reading this year! I am super excited to work at Meadows and be a part of this wonderful Mustang Family. I am definitely FBISD Proud! Speaking of proud, I am graduate of the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. I also have a Master of Science degree in School Counseling.
I am starting my fourteenth year of teaching this August. I still get butterfies when I think about how lucky I am to be a teacher! Previously, I taught in Houston ISD, Alief ISD, and Fort Worth ISD. Prior to finding my passion as a teacher, I was a licensed social worker and had the opportunity to work in many different school settings. I have taught all subjects in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade. But, I must admit that I am a reading teacher at heart!
One of the things that I am most passionate about is helping students become global thinkers and lifelong learners. I believe that a student that is able to critically think is a student who will be able grow and overcome any challenges they are faced with. I love when my classroom is full of conversation, activity, and postive energy. I believe the best way to get a student to learn is to get them engaged!
Learning is an ongoing process. I try to learn something new every day. I look forward to learning from your student.
Have a great day!
