My story is a Texan story – values from a close-knit rural farming family, love of country, hard work, and the possibilities that education affords, and a conviction that a life so blessed should be shared in service to others.
After working my way through college while serving in the Armed Forces, I earned a Master of Arts degree from the University of Houston-Victoria and a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership from Prairie View A&M University after returning home to Texas.
My years in education have been firmly based around the belief that to be able to write well and read well is a liberating power and that education is the foundation for democracy. Education is a human right, not a privilege for a few. I believe that it is a teacher’s charge to help students achieve at their highest individual potential.
I am excited about the universal connectedness of the study of literature, poetry and composition. I am also an outdoor enthusiast and environmentalist.
