My name is Kemi Sowunmi and I teach the Teen Leadership classes and Literacy for 8th grade. This is my 10th year of teaching. I previously taught Language Arts and Social Studies. Prior to teaching, my dream was to become a lawyer. This led me to attend Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas “Eat Up KATS” to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and Political Science. Shortly after graduating from Sam Houston, I pursued my Masters in Criminology at the University of Houston- Clear Lake. While working on my Masters, I started subbing for the Fort Bend ISD, which led me into the world of education. If someone were to ask me what is my life mission statement or what I would like to leave as my legacy, I would say, “I like to be people’s cheerleader. I like for everyone to feel loved, special, accepted and appreciated.” Everyone should have someone who cheers them on throughout the ups and downs, twists and turns of life.” Having said that, it makes me a unique individual. My favorite quote which I coined is “Being uniquely different is letting your LIGHT shine!
