Hello, I am Mrs. Moody and teach 6th grade ELA and Literacy at DCMS. My hope is that your child will learn to love the English language in my classroom this year.
I have 2 big goals for your student to accomplish this year:
1. Be a better reader when they leave.
2. Be a better writer when they leave.
Consequently, we will be practice both of these A LOT, and I need your help! The only way your student can become a better reader/writer is to do more reading and writing. It's that simple! There are no tips or tricks that increase comprehension, vocabulary, STAAR scores more than just the pure act of reading or writing. To get your student to "buy in," I highly recommend that you have them read material and write material that they are interested in. I will require for all my students to read at least 15 minutes per night during the course of the year as their homework grade. For them to get credit on it, they must have your signatures. So, please monitor their reading during the year. I will be making periodic calls home to ask you how you think your student is doing on their reading, if they are making progress. I'll also ask you if you have any concerns/questions about your student in my class. I look forward to talking to you all!
Please contact me for any questions or concerns!
