Back in 1994, I earned a bachelor's degree in English Education 6-12 from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. In 1995, I moved to Houston to teach and dedicate myself to urban education. So I have now happily taught English Language Arts in middle schools in the Houston area since 1995.
During my tenure in HISD, I had the distinguished honor of being featured in a CPB/Maryland Public Television professional development video series based on Dr. Judith Langer's research on teaching literature. I was also honored as teacher of the year at Fondren Middle School. In 2005, I earned a master's degree in teaching from the University of Houston-Downtown and was awarded the "Outstanding Student Award" in my graduating class. I have also presented teaching strategies and ideas (and continue to do so) to other teachers at conventions and professional development sessions locally and throughout the state of Texas.
In 2015, I co-authored a book called Stand Up! Speak Out! The Social Action Curriculum for Building 21st Century Skills, focusing on blending reading, writing, researching, and presenting skills in a manner that motivates and inspires students. This is my goal as their teacher.
I love teaching and do my best to impact students' lives through engaging activities and high standards--both in academics and classroom environment. And although this is not public information, let it be known that one of the main reasons--other than the fact that it is a GREAT school--that I decided to teach at Quail Valley Middle School is the school colors. Green and Gold! Those are the colors of the Green Bay Packers. GO PACK GO!
