Mrs. Jennifer Orpitelli Gurnea
I am a 2007 graduate of UCLA where I earned a B.A. in History. In 2008, I graduated from UC, Irvine, with an M.A. in Teaching and teaching credentials in History and English. In January 2021, I started my doctoral studies in curriculum and instruction online at Texas A&M University and look forward to graduating Fall 2024. This is my 8th year in FBISD (14th overall) and my 3rd here at Travis (I was previously a 7th/9th grade ELA teacher for over a decade).
I proudly employ AVID strategies to help students focus their study skills to find success not only in high school, but in college, too. I am open to feedback about lesson content and teaching strategies because I hope to engage all learners in taking ownership of their education.
Overall, I have a high expectation for personal accountability in the classroom. To that end, I encourage students to email me directly with any questions or to ask for help locating resources for class. In addition, I will do everything in my power to help ALL learners access the material to learn social studies!
Please feel free to email me ANYTIME if you need something--if I don't get back to you within 24 hours, I may have accidentally overlooked your email, but don't fret! Send "2nd Attempt" in the subject and I'll get back to you ASAP :)
