Teaching English and working with young adults is a great honor to me. Brene Brown, University of Houston professor at the Graduate College of Social Work, defines a leader as "anyone who takes responsibility for finding the potential in people and processes, and who has the courage to develop that potential." Thus, being a teacher is being a leader, and my hope is as students grow, they are inspired and are curious to think about life from a different perspective and have an empathetic understanding of the world around them.
Students are an inspiration, and their resilience and technological saviness reminds us that as our world evolves-we all must adapt along with change and continue to creatively problem solve with honesty, respect and dignity.
Austin High School provides a learning environment that nourishes diversity and has high expectations for all their students. Students in turn have a safe place to be creative, learn, and prepare to be leaders in society.
"To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all" Oscar Wilde
