A proud product of Fort Bend ISD (Dulles High School class of 1983), I have served as Director of Orchestras for Clements High School since 2007. In this time, the Clements Chamber Strings and Symphony have been recognized in the Honor Orchestra finals four times, including a 2nd place finish for the Symphony in 2012, the TMEA State String Honor Orchestra for 2012, and a 3rd place finish for the String Orchestra in 2014. Other memorable performances during my tenure include the Clements Symphony performance at the 2015 Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic, the Chamber Strings performance at the 64th Annual Midwest Clinic in December 2010, and a “side by side” Invitational Concert with the University Of Houston Moores School Of Music Symphony Orchestra in April of 2012. In addition to my commitments with the five performing ensembles of the Clements Orchestras, I co-wrote the FBISD Orchestra Curriculum in 2013-2014.
Passionate about my profession, teaching music is a mainstay in my 25 years of service in FBISD. I believe that teaching music is about the journey of musical expression and exploration of all that lies beyond the ink. My philosophy was inspired and strengthened through years of encouragement from my mentors: William D. Duggan; David L. Lambert; Larry Matysiak; and Melvin Montgomery.
Prior to leading the Clements orchestra program, I was Associate Band Director at Clements High School from 1989-2002. The Clements Symphonic Band was named the TMEA AAAAA Honor Band in 1995. The Symphonic Band also performed at the 1995 Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic, and was awarded the Sudler Flag of Honor from the John Philip Sousa foundation for the outstanding high school band that same year. In 2000, I was invited to be a guest conductor for the Clements Symphony performance at the Midwest Clinic under the direction of Penelope Meitz and Larry Matysiak.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Stephen F. Austin State University and participated in the Graduate Studies and Orchestral Internship at the University of Louisiana, Lafayette. In the summer of 2013, I was one of ten Conducting Fellows selected for the Juilliard Conducting Workshop for Music Educators, and in the summer of 2015 I attended the Conductor’s Workshop at The University of Coloradr at Boulder. I hold memberships in Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Orchestra Directors Association, American String Teachers Association, TexASTA and National Association for Music Education. I have been listed in several editions of Who’s Who of American Teachers, and was honored by the Houston Symphony Orchestra with the 2013 Spec’s Charitable Foundation Award for Excellence in Music Education.
I have been married to my husband, Jim since 2002, and we enjoy traveling and camping with our Mini Aussies, Dash and Zoom. And hanging around the house with our cats Whiskers and Shadow, and our parrot Magic. My other hobbies include crochet, knitting, and golf with my dad.
