Tonia Y. Howze, Major, USAF (Ret)

Major Tonia Y. Howze is the Senior Aerospace Science Instructor, Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) and serves as the TX-924 Air Force Junior ROTC Department Head at Kempner High School.

Major Howze entered the United States Air Force in October of 1993.  In 2002, Major Howze received her commission through the United States Air Force Reserve Officer’s Training Corps (ROTC), Detachment 840; Southwest Texas State University, San Marcos, Texas.  She served on active duty in the Air Force for twenty-four years.  Her background includes various duties at the staff and wing-level. 

Throughout her Air Force career, she has filled a myriad of roles, including Assistant Chief of Flying Training Requirements, Chief of Support Requirements, Lead Undergraduate Flying Training Requirements, Squadron Section Commander and Commander.  In 2007, she joined the United States Air Force Reserves and served in the roles as Section Commander, 307th Red Horse Squadron, Barksdale Air Force Base, Shreveport, Louisiana. 

In 2010, Major Howze joined the Texas Air National Guard.  She served as the Director of Manpower and Personnel, Sustainment Services, Recruiting and Airmen and Family Readiness Programs, 147th Force Support Squadron, Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base, Houston, Texas. She also served as the Logistics Readiness Operations Officer for the 147th Logistics Readiness Squadron; 147th Attack Wing, Texas Air National Guard, Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base, Houston, Texas.  As the Logistics Readiness Operations Officer, she was responsible for overseeing the Operations Compliance/Supply Chain Management Flight, Material Management Flight, and the Fuels Management Flight.

Major Howze served as the TX-20066 Air Force Junior ROTC Senior Aerospace Science Instructor, Aerospace Science Department Head at Coldspring-Oakhurst High School, Coldspring, Texas from 2017 - 2022.

Major Howze currently serves on the Air Force JROTC Council of Area Representatives (COAR) for Region 3. She served from 2018 - 2022 as Region 3 Air Force JROTC Field Representative.

Major Howze is married to Richard Howze and they enjoy being empty nesters. They have two beautiful adult daughters.
