Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Shelby Westover

Ms. Westover comes to Travis High School from Kingwood, Texas. She is excited to begin working with the Varsity Belles, JV Belles, Freshman Dance Team, and Dance Classes, alongside Coach Tolar.  Ms. Westover’s mission for her students is for each dancer to reach their highest potential as a student, teammate, and dancer while developing a strong work ethic and the self-discipline needed to carry with them into their future.  Dancing teaches not only skills and technique, but dedication and the drive it takes to reach goals.  Ms. Westover loves being part of a dance “family” and wants to inspire students to strive to be the best they can be, not be held back by their fears, and  to encourage them to enjoy it above all else.

Ms. Westover will be starting her fourth year of teaching, and in addition she has been an instructor/adjudicator for American Dance and Drill Team for the past six years.  Her dance training began at age 3 and continues to this day, as she  continues to attend dance conventions and master classes, and believes it is important to continue to learn and train and remain fresh in her own movement and ideas.

Ms. Westover has been dancing and training for 20+ years.  As a graduate of Kingwood High School, she was a dance officer of the National Champion Kingwood Fillies. After high school Ms. Westover became a member of the 74th Line of the World-Famous Kilgore Rangerettes and was chosen as a Rangerette Swingster. She graduated from Kilgore College with her Associates Degree in Fine Arts, spent a year at SHSU where Ms. Westover was a member of the Orange Pride Dance Team. She then transferred to Stephen F. Austin State University, where she graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Dance and Secondary Education with a Minor in Fitness & Human Performance. While at SFA, Ms. Westover was an active member of the Dancers Against Cancer organization.  Now, as a lifelong learner, Ms. Westover is currently working on her Masters in Education Leadership.

She is beyond excited to begin her fourth year of teaching at Travis High School!
