    The window to request a learning model change has closed and our team has quickly begun efforts to address necessary schedule changes. Overall, we had approximately 11 percent of our families initiate a change – 7,558 students shifting from online to face to face, and 1,041 shifting from face to face to online. Overall, these results show some movement, but we believe that number will be easily and smoothly accommodated by the systems we have in place to support the transition to Term 3 for our students and staff.

    Based on the results of this process, our campus leaders will now carefully analyze all of their available staffing, capacity, and programming so that they can begin to build schedules for our students, and again, the ultimate goal will be to minimize disruption. As I shared last week, we have been carefully analyzing capacity at each campus to determine the maximum number of students they will be able to serve in a face-to-face environment with the social distancing measures in effect in classrooms and common areas. Based on the preliminary results of the learning model selection changes, at this point, we believe that our campuses should be able to accommodate students without having to result to an overflow or hybrid scenario for Term 3, but the work to develop schedules and scrub the data is just beginning. District staff will be working closely with campuses as this work continues with the goal of keeping students at their home campuses with social distancing in place.

    As a reminder, moving forward, if a campus reaches maximum capacity, there are additional mitigation measures that could be put into place if needed, such as reallocating spaces within the school, reconfiguring classrooms and partitioning larger common areas and flex spaces. Again, the goal will be to keep students at their home campus, and in the coming weeks, if a campus determines they will not be able to do so, they will communicate with families directly about options to possibly (temporarily) transfer to another school or remain the online environment.

    We will share more important updates in the weeks ahead, as our important work continues.
