About Me
Howdy! I'm Mrs. G. and I am one of the music teachers at Neill Elementary! Fun facts: This is my fourth year teaching and my main instrument is my voice, but I also play the ukulele and piano. (I am a soprano, which means I have a high singing voice, so we’ll be doing a lot of singing in our music class!)
I have loved ALL of the arts (especially music) since I was a little girl, and I was so lucky to grow up in cities that really celebrated the arts in both Mexico AND in the US! As you can probably guess, I was in choir when I was in middle school and high school, which I continued in college AND in the communities I lived in. When I was in college at the University of Texas at San Antonio, I was also able to study and live in Italy for six months, where I learned how to speak Italian (I also speak English and Spanish). I was able to teach students from ages 3 to mid-40s because of my Vocal Pedagogy course at UTSA, working with the Children’s Chorus of San Antonio, and working in a private lessons studio. After graduating, I wanted to make sure that I was going to be a great music teacher, so I became Level I certified in the Kodály method. Because of this, my first year teaching was full of fun lessons that were filled with folk songs and dances, multicultural music, celebration of diversity, SO MANY GAMES, and even characters and music from video game and TV/film (mostly Fortnite and cartoons)! I hope to keep creating fun and interactive lessons for us this year, and I am EAGER to make some awesome Longhorn music at Neill this school year!
