Hello and Welcome Malala Leopards!
I help our students in several ways here at MYE! I am a Resource/ In-Class Support Teacher, Case Manager, and our campus Project Read Teacher. It's going to be a great year and I am excited to work with your child!
A little bit about me. After growing up in Sugar Land and attending all Fort Bend ISD schools, I graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Learning and Development with Specializations in Reading and French. My professional experience is broad. I taught First Grade in Austin ISD and later moved back to Sugar Land where I became the Program Manager at Cambridge Montessori School, learning and implementing the Montessori philosophy. It was while working there that a parent, who is a BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst), approached me about helping her as an ABA Behavioral Therapist with a start-up non-profit called The Behavior Treatment and Training Center at Texana. This center is now known as The Children's Center for Autism. I was trained intensively in Applied Behavior Analysis, ABA, and worked as an Assistant Classroom Trainer and Behavioral Therapist implementing ABA programs under multiple BCBAs for children 3-8 years of age. I was also a teacher for the Pilot Transition Pre-K Class featured in the Sugar Land Business Journal working with how to help children with Autism transition into general education classrooms.
The experiences I had at Texana, the connections I made with my students, and seeing the progress they made had a profound effect on me. I discovered my love and passion for helping students with special needs. I became certified in Special Education and taught the Life Skills/SAILS program for 3rd-5th Grade at Brazos Bend Elementary in Fort Bend ISD. During this time, I was honored to become Teacher of the Year at BBE and Outstanding Educator of the Year from The Arc of Fort Bend County.
As a Resource/In-Class Support Teacher and Project Read Teacher at Malala, I am able to use all of my knowledge and skills to help my students engage more deeply with their strengths, overcome challenges, and move forward with their learning. Creating individualized learning goals, using a variety of strategies, and thinking outside the box is what I do best.
As a Wife and Mom of three, a high schooler and twin preschoolers, life is very active! I enjoy family time, exercising, reading, and traveling.
I welcome you to MYE! We are a school like no other. We are passionate about education, being a family, being positive, and being there for one another. I look forward to teaching your child and helping them grow in their own unique way!
