Bachelor of Music Prairie View A&M University

Mr. Bashiru Jola-Isiba

I am a first generation Nigerian American, native of Houston, Texas and a proud product of the Houston Independent School District. I attended Westbury High school before transitioning to Prairie View A&M University. Upon graduation, I became a music educator in HISD and dedicated myself to building and enhancing music programs around the district. My efforts paid off as I was nominated Teacher of Year in 2014. After spending 8 years in HISD, I was blessed with the opportunity to join the FBISD and Lake Olympia family!  I am currently going into my 10th year of teaching and I am fired up more than ever to be a positive influence in the lives of my student’s.

My educational philosophy is as followed:  I believe in teaching kids life principles through the art form of music education. I believe in exposing students to various concepts and opportunities because “Exposure Expands Expectation” I have three words that every student in my band program should know, and they are Respect, Community, and Independence. I am certain that under the umbrella of these words many characteristics are developed as students participate in this program. It is my belief that development of those characteristics will help to propel students to excellence as team members and instrumentalist; ultimately building up much needed confidence for members to take and apply in other areas of life.

I am a follower of Christ, a Husband to an amazing wife and a beautiful energetic 4 year old. In my spare time, I love firing up my grill and barbequing, camping with friends, working out, listening to music, along with learning to become a better follower of Christ, husband, father and educator. I look forward to meeting and speaking with you!
