My name is Sonia McMichael and I would like to welcome you to the 2020-21 school year. I look forward to helping your child adjust smoothly to middle school and learn some valuable skills that will help them throughout their academic career and in the big wide world.
I’d like to begin by telling you a little about myself. This is my 16th year in education and this will be my second year teaching at First Colony. After getting my Bachelor of Science degree from University of Arizona, I was a claims investigator for some time before I made the switch to become a teacher. I obtained my Teaching Certification from the University of LaVerne in California. I have continued my education with NASA as an Aerospace educator and have been a Robotics Coach for 4 years. I am also the Mentor/sponsor of FCMS Coding & Robotics Club.
Outside of school I have a son who is graduated this year from University of Alabama honors program in Aerospace Engineering and is now in a Doctoral Program at Penn State University studying Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences. I my leisure time, My husband and I enjoy traveling, kayaking, hiking, biking, and reading. I also enjoy eating out and trying foods from every culture! I am a first generation American (my mother is German and my father is Greek).
