Miss Kayla Dolder-Belknap

Hi! My name is Miss Belknap.  I am a mother of a beautiful 8 year old daughter and we moved to Houston from Upstate New York, almost three years ago! Wow, how time flies! I was born and raised in New York but fell inlove with Texas when I was 17. I am a graduate of SUNY Cortland, with a Dual Teaching Certification in Elementary Education since 2011.  I continued my education in 2012, later graduating with a Master’s Degree in Special Education with an Autism Specialization from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA in 2014.   I have now been teaching for 10 years in New York State and Texas in different capacities.  I have experience teaching 5th-7th grade Co-Teach as well as 5th grade General Education Social Studies/ELA/Reading.  I have always had a passion in working with children needing behavioral support.  With that being said...

I am the CLaSS Teacher here at Highlands!  CLaSS is a new program, started in the 2018-2019 school year at Highlands, focusing on assisting children with Communication, Language and Social Skills.   My team is made up of myself and three  paraprofessionals.  We work together creating a warm and nurturing environment for children to feel safe and comfortable in school in order to limit problem behaviors and increase social awareness as well as academic success.
