I am beyond excited for my fourth school year as part of the Viking Family! There is a lot of new happening at DMS this school year including two new semester (half year) CTE courses: Lifetime Nutrition and Wellness along with Interpersonal Studies that I am thrilled to introduce to our 8th grade students. Completion of these semester courses will result in one full high school credit for students that does count towards graduation and their GPA calculations.
Lifetime Nutrition and Wellness (LNW): We will explore the following topics- Diet & Nutrition, Digestion & Metabolism, Food Safety & Sanitation, Cooking/Baking Techniques, Food/Restaurant Management, along with Employability Skills & Career Research in relation to Nutrition and Wellness.
Interpersonal Studies (IS): We will explore the following topics- Career Preparation, Personal Development, Decision Making, Preparation for Adulthood, Types of Families, Relationships, Family Life Cycle, Handling Crisis, along with Stress Management.
I am also embarking on my third year as the DMS Yearbook Advisor. This is the third year that our students at Dulles MS and I have had the opportunity to participate in a Yearbook course and really take some ownership over the campus yearbook. Students will learn basic journalism skills, how to navigate publishing software, and meet deadlines.
I am looking forward to a fantastic year of doing things The Viking Way and assisting our students in owning their learning! Whether I am working with your child virtually or face-to-face, their overall academic success and personal growth is my number one priority.
