Hi! My name is Emerson Lucas. This is my second year as Math Specialist at Ridgegate Elementary, and I have been in the field of education for about 21 years now. I have earned my Bachelor of Elementary Education degree at the Arellano University, Manila, Philippines in 1994. Six years later, I was awarded my Master's Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision at the Saint Ferdinand College, Philippines. I am married and I have a son who is now a sophomore college student at Houston Baptist University.
My philosophy of teaching is founded in one of Confucius' famous quotes - "I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand." I strongly believe that quality learning is guaranteed only when students do not only hear the lesson, but they see it, do it, share, and discuss it with their classmates. Students should not be mere receivers of knowledge and information, but they have to create it themselves, see its significance and how the newly gained knowledge can be applied in real life situations. They must be given varied opportunities to tinker, explore, and share their insights and discoveries in every lesson. This is my belief and this is what I am committed to provide in my day to day interaction with students.
