This is my 11th year teaching 7th grade math at SLMS and my 12th year teaching 7th grade math for FBISD.
I enjoy teaching math and expanding the students knowledge of how math is used on a daily basis by everyone. My original degree of Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M, allowed me to expand my knowledge of math and work with people everyday. While in engineering I worked in manufacturing, in the natural gas supply industry, and in healthcare at Texas Childrens Hospital and Harris County Hospital District. When I left engineering, due to the traveling that it required, I joined a custom home building company. I later started my own company that installed concrete wall systems for residential and commercial projects.
Teaching had always been a passion of mine. As my daughters got older, I found that I was helping them and their friends with school work everyday. I took the opportunity to go back to college when my daughters were wrapping up elementary school. I wanted to be able to have the same schedule they had and for my girls to know that you were never too old to learn (go back to school) and change what you wanted to do for a carreer. I have enjoyed the career change.
I have lived in Sugar Land for 26 years and my daughters went all the way through the FBISD school system (K-12). They both graduated from Clements High School and attend college at UT San Antonio. My oldest daughter is a Biomedical Engineering major and my younger daughter is a Physical Therapy major. They will both graduate in 2019 and move on to their graduate degrees. I recently married a Sugar Land Police Officer. My husband has been with the Sugar Land Police Department for 27 years. He is a native Houstonian, but moved to Sugar Land at 15. He is a graduate of Dulles High School. He attended Sam Houston and graduated with a finance degree. He became a guard with TDC while attending the police academy. At graduation he got a job with Sugar Land Police department and is now one of the most tenured officers. His parents also still live in Sugar Land. Needless to say, we have a vested interest in Sugar Land and FBISD. I plan on continuing to teach middle school math at SLMS and share my love of numbers with all of my students.
