This is my 13th year teaching math at SLMS and my 14th year teaching math for FBISD.
I enjoy teaching math and expanding the students knowledge of how math is used on a daily basis by everyone. My original degree of Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M, allowed me to expand my knowledge of math and work with people everyday. While in engineering I worked in manufacturing, in the natural gas supply industry, and in healthcare at Texas Childrens Hospital and Harris County Hospital District. When I left engineering, due to the traveling that it required, I joined a custom home building company. I later started my own company that installed concrete wall systems for residential and commercial projects.
Teaching had always been a passion of mine. As my daughters got older, I found that I was helping them and their friends with school work everyday. I took the opportunity to go back to college when my daughters were wrapping up elementary school. I wanted to be able to have the same schedule they had and for my girls to know that you were never too old to learn (go back to school) and change what you wanted to do for a carreer. I have enjoyed the career change.
I have lived in Sugar Land for 29 years and my daughters went all the way through the FBISD school system (K-12). They both graduated from Clements High School. They both attended college at UT San Antonio and graduated with undergraduate degrees in Kineseolgy and Biomedical Engineering in 2019. My oldest daughter will attend graduate studies in Sports Medicine this year and my younger daughter starts her graduate studies in Education. I have been married to a Sugar Land Police Officer for almost 6 years. My husband has been with the Sugar Land Police Department for 29 years and will start his 30th year January of 2021. He is a native Houstonian, but moved to Sugar Land at 15. He is a graduate of Dulles High School. He attended Sam Houston and graduated with a finance degree. Law enforcement was his dream. After graduating college he attended the police academy. His parents still live in Sugar Land and his dad was a city councilman and accountant to the city in the early days of Sugar Land. Needless to say, we have a vested interest in Sugar Land and FBISD. I plan on continuing to teach middle school math at SLMS and share my love of numbers with all of my students.
