My name is Alison Nowlain. I am very excited about the upcoming year here at Neill Elementary with you all!
I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher. I would always play school with my little sister when I was little. In high school I volunteered at the elementary school in my town and would spend part of my day helping the teachers by reading to the kids and tutoring them with math or reading. I loved it! Once I graduated college from the University of South Carolina, I immediately began my teaching career. While teaching my first year I obtained my Masters degree in Creative Arts in Teaching from Lesley University.
I have completed 22 years of teaching and am looking forward to many more. I have taught in Georgia, South Carolina, Massachusetts, and Texas. The grades I have taught are all grades Pre-Kindergarten to Fifth. I have enjoyed all of my teaching experiences from all of these districts and have amazing memories of some great children, parents and co-workers that I have met along the way.
My husband, George, and I have been married for 17 years. He was in the Army in Augusta, Georgia while I was teaching there. Once we got married he was deployed, so that is why I have been able to teach in so many different places. He is no longer in the Army and loves what he does. He is an Imaging Engineer at Siemens in Houston in the Medical Center. We have a 10 year old daughter named Chloe (who will be in 5th grade here at Neill Elementary) and a 6 year old daughter named Eva (who will be in Kindergarten here at Neill Elementary). They are so much fun and bring joy to my life daily! We love playing board games and doing crafts together. My oldest daughter loves to bake with me on the weekends. I love having my girls with me at Neill and look forward to seeing them in the hallways showing me the Longhorn sign!
I look forward to an amazing year at Neill in my new position as a Resource Teacher. I have always wanted to teach in the SPED department and am glad I followed my dream! I am passionate about this field and feel that ALL children are able to learn, they just all learn differently and it is my job to find out how.
