Hello! My name is Ruby Portugal. I am thrilled to begin my 27th year in education this year! I have taught 1st grade and third grade, been an ESL Support teacher and am now the Reading Support/Dyslexia Teacher. I am an FBISD graduate, received my Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Texas-Pan American and my Master’s Degree from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. I am a proud Quail Valley Resident, QVE parent and staff member. I strive each day to help make our community and school the best it can be. As Reading Specialist, I provide focused literacy interventions to selected students. I also provide leadership and coaching to teachers on effective English/Language Arts and Reading instruction as well as guidance to teachers in utilizing effective reading practices within the classroom setting. I enjoy assisting with assessing and evaluating student achievement, modify instructional activities and communicating student progress to classroom teachers, campus administrators and parents. I absolutely love children’s literature and enjoy sharing my love of reading with students at QVE.
