I have had the joy of being the reading specialist at Palmer for 16 years.
When asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would say I wanted to be a teacher from as far back as I can remember. Once I became a teacher, science was my favorite subject to teach in the general classroom. My shift from being a general classroom teacher began when I worked with students that wanted to learn, but reading was an obstacle that kept them from being successful in school.
Being part of a military family, I needed to be recertified each time we moved, so that was the perfect opportunity to make my degree more specific. As my experiences broadened, my professional focus narrowed to reading. I have had the pleasure of working in five very different elementary schools and going to seven colleges. Two of my teaching positions were overseas and I also attended one college there. My love for learning is something I hope to transfer to my students. If they love to learn, they will always be growing as an individual.
My husband of 39 years and I have lived in Texas for 17 years. We are very proud of our adult son and daughter who live in Austin.
Coming to Palmer as a reading specialist and working with dyslexic children is infinitely more than I could ask for or even imagine. The students here are why I do what I do!
