COVID-19 Contact Tracing Team

  • Contact tracing is an important part of Fort Bend ISD’s health and safety protocols.  It is a close collaboration between Fort Bend ISD, the Fort Bend County Health Department, and other area county health departments with the goal of slowing the spread of COVID-19.

Submission of PCR COVID-19 Test Results

  • Rapid COVID-19 tests are not accepted per the guidance of the Fort Bend County Health Department.

FBISD Staff must submit PCR COVID-19 test results to the Contact Tracing Team via email at COVID19SupportTeam@fortbendisd.com

Parents must submit their student's PCR COVID-19 test results to the school nurse at their student's home campus.

  • FBISD has worked diligently to augment our COVID-19 wellness screening and contact tracing by partnering with IBM to enhance and streamline our data collection and systems. As a part of this partnership, Fort Bend ISD has established and trained a COVID-19 Contact Tracing Team; which is solely dedicated to facilitating this process in an accurate, thorough and timely manner.

In accordance with Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Texas Education Agency (TEA) guidelines, Fort Bend ISD takes immediate action when we learn of a positive case. This includes contacting the Fort Bend ISD custodial services team to initiate enhanced cleaning and disinfection of areas within the school building and bus. The Fort Bend County Health Department is also contacted and consulted as a part of our COVID-19 District team contact tracing and reporting process.

Each case investigation includes a thorough contact tracing process to identify individual(s) who were in close contact with the confirmed case. Individual(s) identified as being in close contact with the confirmed case are contacted directly by the district’s contact tracing team. Close contacts will be instructed not to return to the school environment until after the 14 day quarantine period has passed. Case investigations consist of interviewing and contact tracing with the individual directly, as well as appropriate individuals on-site and able to provide information, while ensuring the privacy of the patient.

  • Daily Wellness Screening

Contact Tracing begins with the Daily Wellness Screening.  Students and their parents complete the wellness screening in Skyward while staff completes their screening via the link they receive via email, text or share point link.

Students, parents, and staff are encouraged to make these reports even on weekends and days off as our contact tracing team works seven days a week. This is especially important to keep in mind with the holidays approaching.

Please report symptoms, exposures, and positive results immediately in your daily wellness screening over the breaks as our contact tracing team will be working every day over the Thanksgiving and Winter break with the exception of Thanksgiving Day, Friday, November 27th, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.

  • Contact Tracers

The results of the Wellness Screening are routed directly to our Fort Bend ISD Contact Tracing Team. This team, of Johns Hopkins trained contact tracers, immediately call any students or staff who reported COVID-19 symptoms, exposures to a confirmed positive case, or a positive test result.

The contact tracers conduct their assessment with impacted students and staff to determine the isolation period – 10 days from the onset of symptoms; OR the quarantine period – which is 14 days for those who have been exposed to a confirmed positive case.

Fort Bend ISD is working to have the FBISD Contact Tracing phone number listed in the caller ID registry as "FBISD C Tracing," but until this registration is complete all phone calls by the Contact Tracing Team will show to be made from 832-981-7800.

Please do not call 832-981-7800 to report symptoms, exposures, or suspected cases of COVID-19 as this number is only used as a callout phone service instead of a call receiving hotline. Staff and students should continue to make these types of reports with the daily Wellness Screening.

  • Quarantine and Isolation

Individuals with one or more symptoms will be cleared to return to school or work 72 hours from onset of symptoms once they:

    1. Receive a NEGATIVE COVID-19 (PCR) test
    2. Or Are evaluated by their physician/provider and have an alternative diagnosis

    AND

    1. Fever free without the use of fever reducing medicines in the last 24 hours of the 72 hours

Students or staff not evaluated by a health care provider, and not having a negative COVID-19 PCR test, MUST:

    1. Stay home for 10 days from onset of symptoms

    AND

    1. Show improvement of symptoms
    2. Fever free without the use of fever reducing medicines in the last 24 hours of the 10 days they are out of school or work

Individuals in quarantine due to an exposure to a confirmed positive case, must stay out of work or school for the full 14 days regardless of a negative COVID test.

When an individual tests positive, our FBISD Contact Tracing Team partners with campus leaders, teachers, coaches and our families to conduct a thorough investigation to determine close contacts, cleaning procedures, the communication plan, and possible shifts in learning models.

The FBISD Contact Tracing Team follows those in isolation and quarantine all the way to the clearance process authorizing students and staff to return to their respective facilities.

Both students and staff, when able, have the option of learning and working remotely during their isolation or quarantine period.

Students and parents should follow-up with their teachers, administrators, or school counselors to make arrangements for asynchronous online activities and assignments during their isolation or quarantine period, if they have not heard from them on plans to support learning.

  • Clearance

Clearance is the final step in the contact tracing process.  FBISD works closely with the county health department to clear all individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19, and both students and staff must be cleared by the FBISD Contact Tracing Team before returning to a FBISD facility.
