I am pleased to bring my experience and knowledge as an English teacher to serve the students at Clements High School. Over my career, I have worked with students who have possessed a variety of educational needs who come from equally varied backgrounds. Working with such a diverse population of students has offered me many challenges through which I have developed as a career educator. It has benefitted many of the students who I have worked with and helped me grow as a professional.
My teaching career officially started in Texas in 1993 when I taught students along the border of Texas and Mexico. From those early years, I have accepted instructional positions in both regular and special education classrooms. My focus has been on fostering literacy in the English and social studies content areas. I have engaged students in rural areas to urban areas, experiencing success in both. The climate of the instructional settings which I have been able to create has inspired to continue in the mutual roles of a life-long teacher and a life-long learner.
My philosophy as a teacher embraces that pupils need to develop greater responsibility for their education and become independent from me as a teacher the more we work together. I feel my primary goal is to prepare them with the basic skills and abilities to raise questions, seek information to answer those questions, and use functional communication skills to share what they have learned with others.
