STAAR Field Test
STAAR Field Test
Our 6th and 7th grade students will be participating in the STAAR Reading and Language Arts Field Test on February 6th and February 7th. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. If you have any questions about the STAAR RLA Field Test, please do not hesitate to contact Melissa Ford, our Campus Assessment Coordinator. We encourage you to visit the TEA website for more information about the STAAR RLA Field Test: https://tea.texas.gov/student-assessment
What is the STAAR RLA Field Test?
The STAAR RLA Field Test is a practice assessment developed by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to help them refine and improve future STAAR RLA test questions and formats. Unlike the official STAAR, the field test results will not be used to evaluate your child's academic performance, nor will they impact their grades or graduation status.
Why is this important?
By participating in the field test, your child is playing a valuable role in helping to ensure that future STAAR RLA assessments are fair, accurate, and relevant. Their participation provides essential data that the TEA can use to create better tests for all Texas students. There will not be makeup tests offered.
What to expect on test day:
- The test will be administered online and will take approximately 3 hours to complete.
- Please ensure your child arrives at school on time.
- We encourage them to get a good night's sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and come to the test with a positive attitude and their best effort.
While the test results will not be shared with our school or district, we understand that test day can still be stressful for students. Please help your child feel prepared and confident by:
- Reminding them about the importance of their participation in this valuable process.
- Encouraging them to get a good night's sleep and eat a healthy breakfast before the test.
- Talking to them about their test anxiety and offering calming strategies.

GT Testiing
Testing Details:
The GT testing at Sartartia Middle School will take place during the week of November 6-9.
How to Prepare for GT Testing:
It is essential to understand that there is no "pass" or "fail" outcome for the gifted test. This assessment is designed to determine how each student learns best. You can help your child prepare by explaining that it is merely a test to understand their learning style. Encourage them to get a good night's sleep, have a nutritious breakfast, and emphasize the importance of doing their best on all tasks, even if they need to make educated guesses when unsure of answers.
Notification of the Decision:
The District Selection Committee will communicate its decision to parents in writing. Notification letters for students in grades K-12 will be dispatched on March 4, 2024.
