I am Edie T. Drake, a sixth year teacher at Oakland Elementary, in my thirteenth year of teaching. I began my teaching career in my hometown of New Orleans, LA. There I taught seventh and eighth grade READ180 (reading intervention) and fifth grade English Language Arts. I have taught 5th grade for five of my six years at Oakland.
I have a Masters of Arts in Teaching specializing in Elementary Education and Reading Specialist from Xavier University of Louisiana, and a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science from Southern University and A&M College. I also have extensive training in arts integration, as a former mentor teacher at an arts integrated charter school in New Orleans.
When I’m away from the classroom, I am usually at a school sponsored event for one of my three children. I am the proud mother of twin college students and an 8th grader. We enjoy football, basketball, and track and field activities, when we’re not cheering on our favorite team, the New Orleans Saints.
