I am thrilled to be teaching at Sartartia Middle School! Educating the next generation for success has always been my focus whether it be in the classroom, educational publishing, in my own home or at my church. This focus began for me back in 1994 when I first entered the classroom as an 8th grade U.S. History teacher.
I enjoy helping my students learn to think for themselves, take responsibility for their learning and persevere to the next level of academic success. I believe in active learning and incorporating various learning styles into my lessons. Continuous improvement is always a focus for me as I believe that as I get better, my students will also do better. I enjoy reading educational literature, scrolling Twitter for ideas on how to improve my classroom, and attending professional conferences. In the fall of 2017 I took on the role of the SMS Professional Learning Lead. In this role I get to work not only with students but also teachers! I work alongside my colleagues to advocate for continuous improvement in our teaching skillset and facilitate professional development on our campus.
This 2020-2021 school year will be "unprecendented" in many ways (we are tired of that word but it is so fitting). Through it all you can count on me to work to build relationships with each of my students and strive to meet the needs of each learner. We can do this!
When I am not in the classroom I am busy enjoying my own family. My husband and I have one FBISD Graduate who is off attending college and one child still in high school. We also have two cats that are kind of like children too. I enjoy putting puzzles together, riding my bike and sitting down for coffee with friends.
I look forward to working with you to make this year the best ever. Please feel free to follow me on instagram at bsmitheducator. It is an easy way to see what we are doing in our class and the other educational journeys I am on.
