My name is Karen Efron. I am married to a wonderful man and I have two beautiful children, a son in law, a beautiful daughter in law, and three amazing grandchildren. My husband is a 6th grade math teacher here at SLMS, and he was also a professional stunt man that has been in over two hundred films and movies. I am a graduate of Dulles High School. I attended Sam Houston State University where I earned my BAT in Physical Education and UH Clear Lake where I earned my MS in Instructional Technology. I have been teaching and coaching for thirty years at Sugar Land Middle School in Sugar Land, TX. I also serve as the PE/health department chair, and coach volleyball and track.
A factor that influenced me to become a teacher was my desire to work with youth and positively impact their lives. I feel it is my responsibility to set a good example for our youth. Being a physical education teacher gives me the opportunity to reach many more students than a classroom teacher. The environment is more relaxed and more conducive for students to share what they are actually feeling or when something is bothering them.
I believe my greatest accomplishments in education graduate every year. By this I am referring to the many students whom I have had the privilege of teaching. Every year my past students return to campus to visit and share how we, the teachers here at Sugar Land Middle School, have impacted their lives. I hope to not only teach them about physical education but also life lessons that they can use for the rest of their lives.
