Jim Rice was re-elected to Position 3 in May 2016, a position he has held since 2010. He has previously served as Board President and Board Secretary. Jim has been a resident of Sugar Land since 1981 and is the president of Rice & Gardner Consultants, an engineering and construction management firm. He is an active member of the Boy Scouts of America and is currently serving on the Sam Houston Area Council Board of Directors. He has extensive experience working directly with youth in the Boy Scouts and church, and all three of his sons are Eagle Scouts. In addition, Jim has served on the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors since 2005 and is currently serving a second term as Vice Chair of the Chamber’s Education Division.
Jim is also a 2005 graduate of the Fort Bend Chamber’s Leadership Forum Class. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Literacy Council of Fort Bend County; the Fort Bend Regional P16 Council, which is dedicated to supporting student achievement; and is co-founder and current Chairman of the Board of Directors of Fort Bend Cares - a 501 c(3) charitable foundation. Jim and his wife Mary have raised three sons who graduated from Fort Bend ISD schools.
