DIAGNOSTIC SPECIALIST
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Working under general supervision of the special education coordinator and
campus principal(s), the educational diagnostician assists in the evaluation and
identification of special education students and assists the Fort Bend
Independent School District in fulfilling the law pertaining to disabled
students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in field of educational or psychological assessment and evaluation
Certification as an educational diagnostician or licensure by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists
Some successful experience, including time in a special education or remedial program
JOB GOALS:
Provides individual assessment of intelligence, educational functioning and adaptive behavior according to local, Texas, and federal rules and guidelines
Provides test interpretation to professional staff and parents
Participates in initial and annual meetings and assists special education personnel in the development of an educational plan for each special education student
Establishes and maintains evidence of eligibility and three year re-evaluation according to federal, Texas, and local guidelines
Consults with professional staff and parent regarding strategies for meeting student needs
Serves as liaison between professional staff at assigned schools and the staff support and service center regarding assessment and special education issues
Communicates with District staff, school staff, students, parents, and other special education professionals
Utilizes a variety of evaluation instruments and reporting materials and equipment
