The role of the Reading Specialist in Fort Bend ISD is to promote literacy opportunities for students, teachers, and parents in a way that emphasizes appropriate instruction targeting students who have difficulty reading, writing, and spelling, especially 504 dyslexic students and struggling readers. Our goal is that ALL students will be successful life-long learners. The Reading Specialist also assists teachers with instructional resources and models appropriate literacy strategies in the classroom.

I have called Burton home since 2005. Previously, I taught Reading Recovery and served as a Primary Literacy Specialist in Fort Bend ISD. I have also taught 4th - 8th grades in Wharton ISD. I graduated from Texas Lutheran College with a Bachelor’s in Economics and Political Science. I graduated from the University of Houston-Victoria with a Master's Degree as a Certified Reading Specialist. I recently finished my doctoral degree in Reading at the University of Houston Main Campus. I also completed my certification requirements with ALTA and am a Certified Academic Language Therapist.
