• Read to your child at an early age.
• Make frequent trips to the public library.
• Give books as gifts.
• Talk about books. Talk, talk, talk.
• Have something to read all around the house: newspapers, magazines, books – materials that your kids want to read.
• Make reading a pleasant thing – don't use reading as a punishment.
• Read what your child/teen is reading and talk, talk, talk.
• Maximize access to school and public libraries.
