Welcome to Automotive Technology I
Automotive Technology is a class for students who are interested in and plan to pursue a career in automotive technology. Auto 1 students gain a thorough knowledge of the automobile in classroom and lab instruction by studying 4 major areas of the automobile Brakes, Electrical, Engine Performance, and Steering & Suspension. At the end of Auto 1 students apply to dealerships and independent shops for PAID internships where they work through the summer and their senior year of high school in Auto 2. This can lead them to a career in the automotive field and to become a Certified Automotive Technicians or Entrepreneurs. It also prepares students to take the ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification examination. The National Automotive Technician Education Foundation (NATEF) and the Automotive Youth Educational Systems (AYES} certify the class. Transportation is provided from all Fort Bend ISD high schools to the Technical Education Center. This course is offered for college credit with the successful completion of both Auto1 & Auto 2 and can substiute for PE credit. Uniform shirt and safety glasses are required (approximately $30.00) and SkillsUSA dues $25.00. For Auto 2, a drivers’ license with clean record and a social security number are required. Students should apply in their 10 grade year.
