Health Science Technology I

Course Description

HEALTH SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION is divided into two courses, Health Science Technology I, and Health Science Technology II. These classes are advanced credit and can satisfy ½ credits of health and up to 2 credits of P.E.

 

HEALTH SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY I is offered to students in 10th through 12th grades. The recommended prerequisite course for this class is Biology I. This course represents an overview of the anatomy and physiology of the human systems. Therapeutic, Diagnostic, Environmental. And Informational career pathways of the health care industry. The focus is on career exploration, leadership development, ethical and legal issues, and trends in financing health care.
 

HEALTH SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY II is offered to students in 11th and 12th grades. The prerequisite course for this class is Health Science Technology I. This course provides an unpaid training internship in a clinical medical facility to prepare the students for the transition to clinical or work base experiences in health care. This course is designed to develop health care skills, effective communication, ethical and legal responsibilities, client care and safety. Students are certified in first aid and CPR. Students will develop a concept of health and wellness from the perspective of a consumer as well as a potential professional in the health care industry.
 
The course # for HEALTH SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY I is CH1021 & CH1022. This class meets 1 hour each day.
 
The course # for HEALTH SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY II is CH2221 & CH2222 This class meets 2 periods each day.
