The first grade teachers at Settlers Way are dedicated to advancing the children in academics, work habits and social skills. All children will be trained in developing comprehension skills as their reading fluency improves. For those who need further assistance with this development, Reading Recovery lessons will be provided. Even at this young age, the children will be practicing problem solving math through mental math, manipulative math and paper pencil calculations. Exciting science lessons including the study of butterflies and soils are offered as the children advance through life, earth and physical science. With lessons in developing strong character traits, the teachers will promote citizenship qualities to secure a strong future for all. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing the great growth that occurs for first graders.
