Welcome to Spanish IA
High school Spanish I is taught over two years in grades seven and eight. Upon successful completion of this two year-program, students will receive one high school graduation credit and grade points for Spanish I. In grade seven, students are introduced to the basics of the language and culture. This course integrates the five Program Goals of the TEKS for Languages Other Than English: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities. It is a study of language and culture incorporating the development of listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing and showing. The main goal of this course is for students to progress toward a novice level ability in using the foreign language in school and in the community. Oral proficiency is emphasized and assessed regularly. Students successfully completing Spanish IA who do not continue with Spanish IB in grade eight are not eligible to receive high school credit and grade points for high school Spanish I in middle school. **Based on the availability of a certified language teacher on campus and student course requests, other languages may be offered**
