Welcome to English/Language Arts (ELA)

In grade 6, students master previously learned reading, writing, listening, speaking, viewing and representing skills in increasingly complex presentations, reading selections, and written compositions. Sixth grade students take notes during oral presentations and summarize spoken messages. Students read widely in classic and contemporary selections and informational texts. Students use study strategies and complete research projects and reports. Students use different forms of writing and more complex grammar and usage, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization strategies to produce error-free compositions on a regular basis. Gifted and Talented classes emphasize language study, problem solving and advanced reading and research. Students produce high level critical and creative products.
