I am LaTonya Land and I'm excited about being the new counselor at Sienna Crossing Elementary. My goal is to work closely with teachers, administrators, and parents to ensure that the social, academic, and emotional growth of all our students is my first priority. I will do this through classroom guidance lessons, sharing ideas for classroom teachers, and working with students in small groups or individually to support their needs and concerns. Helping Children Handle Homework
 
*Keep in mind that the overall purpose of homework is to give children an opportunity for independent practice with a skill they have already been taught.
*Schedule daily homework into your child's life as a priority.
*Recognize that homework is your child's responsibility.
*Expect your child to write down daily homework assignments legibly and completely.
*Expect your child to succeed; provide additional incentives if necessary.
*Discuss the teacher's homework expectations in a parent teacher conference.
*Support the teacher's expectations of the way homework should be completed.
*Be sure all homework is finished in proper form and is placed in your child's backpack before going to bed.
*Discuss the consequences of incomplete assignments.
*Avoid using homework as a punishment.
*Demonstrate proper organizational skills.
*Use a planning calendar to break long-term projects into manageable segments.
