Welcome to Art
Art is an expression of a relationship between an individual and his or her surroundings. Art allows us to express our thoughts about our past, present, and future aspirations. Through the use of visual records, we have learned about the way of life of many cultures. Some of the art skills and concepts that the students have been learning about are how to do portraits. The students used geometric shapes to show facial features that have symmetry and balance. (Grades 2-5). Third graders learned how to do landscapes and how to use a style called pointillism to add color and texture to their to their pictures. Currently, the fourth graders are learning how to add details to the drawing of their tennis shoes by using close observation and estimation of the designs on the shoe. The fifth graders are rapping up a lengthy lesson about two- point perspective where the students learn to make their objects show distance and make them appear three-dimensional. Finally, the students get a chance to participate in various contests each school year. For the School Bus Safety Contest, the students discuss and create a picture that illustrates the safety precautions that we should take. Other yearly contests that the students are exposed to include the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Black History Contest, Fort Bend County Fair Contest, Fire Prevention Poster Contest, and many more. Each month during the school year artwork produced by a student at Ridgemont is exhibited in the Administration Building. Fort Bend ISD celebrates Youth Art Month in March/April. During this time, eight to ten pieces of artwork is on display at some local business in the community or in the Administration.
