Welcome to Fourth Grade
What is your child learning during the 1st 9 weeks? READING/WRITING: Teachers are monitoring comprehension, students are making predictions, inferring, and making visualizations while reading. Students are practicing Narrative writing and editing. Students take a Writing TAKS Test! SOCIAL STUDIES: Students are learning and studying the regions of Texas MATH: Students are taught place value through the hundred millions and decimal place value: tenths and hundredths. Students are also problem solving using addition and subtraction. Students are encourage to study their multiplication facts everyday for 30 minutes. SCIENCE: Students are taught Scientific tools and the process for science experimentation. Students will also be introduce to our first science kit, Animal Studies, where they will learn about the Dwarf African Frog. FYI's and Important Dates: *Your child took a Pre-Assessment in Math on Sept. 11th. Look out for results in your child’s planner! *Upcoming schoolwide testing: Math Blitz on September 25&October 9 and Reading Blitz on October 2&October 16 *RME Common Formative Assessment in Reading and Math on October 23. *Science Blitz is on October 30 *STUDENTS PROGRESS REPORTS GO HOME ON SEPTEMBER 17. * Remember Parents: *Your child should read at least one chapter book a week. *Your child should practice basic multiplication facts everyday. *Your child has homework everyday. See his/her planner for assignments. *Your child must follow classroom’s hand signals, CHAMPS expectations, and Project Class to be a Fantastic fourth grader!
